Your privacy, in plain words
We collect as little as we can, use it only for what you asked for, and never sell or share it for anyone else's marketing. Last updated October 29, 2026.
Who we are
Scenegoer is a free calendar of events in Metro Vancouver, with an optional email. Contact: hello@scenegoer.com, or Scenegoer, PO Box 31782, RPO Meadowvale S C, Pitt Meadows, BC V3Y 2H1, Canada.
Browsing the calendar
You don't need an account. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't run third-party analytics. Your browser keeps a few settings on your own device (your filters, whether you've subscribed, and a friend's referral code for 30 days if you arrived by one); they never leave it. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security, as any website host does. Our fonts load from Google Fonts, and some event pictures load from the venue's own site, so those servers see your browser's request (including its IP address) when that happens.
If you sign up for the email
- What we keep: your email address, the options you chose (for example the Sunday weeknights email), where on the site you signed up, and when you signed up and confirmed. If you came through a friend's link, we note that link.
- Proof of consent: Canadian anti-spam law (CASL) asks us to be able to show you agreed. So we keep the wording you agreed to and a scrambled, one-way version of the IP address you signed up from (we can't turn it back into your address).
- Delivery problems: if an email to you bounces or is marked as spam, our email provider tells us, and we stop emailing that address.
- Unsubscribing is one click at the bottom of every email. We keep a record that you unsubscribed (your address and the date) so we never email you again by mistake.
Referral rewards
If you earn a physical reward, we ask for your name and mailing address. We use them only to mail it, and delete the address once it's sent. See the referral terms.
Plans with friends
When you make or answer a plan, we keep the first name you type, your answer (in, maybe or can't, and how many friends you're bringing), the days you said work, and any votes. Anyone with the plan's link can see those. If the organizer adds a ticket price and how to pay them back, the page shows who owes what; only the organizer sees who has paid. Scenegoer never handles the money. Your browser keeps a private code so you can change your answer later. Plans are deleted 30 days after their date, or 6 months after if they belong to a crew, so a crew can see what it's done together.
Listing an event, or writing to us
The name, email and notes you send with an event are used only to review it and reply to you; they're never shown publicly. Pending submissions are deleted after 60 days, rejected ones after 14 days, and approved ones a few days after the event. Emails you send us are kept as long as we're talking, then deleted.
Who processes your data for us
- Cloudflare: hosts the site and our subscriber database, and runs the anti-bot check on our forms (Turnstile).
- Amazon Web Services (Canada region): sends our emails.
- GitHub: runs our automated jobs, which read the subscriber list briefly to send each issue.
- Kit (ConvertKit): our previous email provider, while we finish moving off it.
Some of these companies may process data outside Canada, including in the United States. They act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes. We don't sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don't give it to advertisers or sponsors.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, at any time: email hello@scenegoer.com from the address in question and we'll do it within 30 days. (If you ask us to delete everything, we keep only a note that the address must never be emailed, which is the one thing that protects you from being re-added.) If you're not happy with how we handled it, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll say so in the email before it takes effect.
